Revive this favorite appetizer from the 1950s for your crowd. Make a batch ahead and refrigerate, covered tightly with plastic wrap, up to four hours ahead.

Cocktail Sandwiches

32 slices party rye bread
Dijon-style mustard
Prepared horseradish sauce
About 4 ounces thinly sliced ham, cut into 16 pieces
4 (1-ounce) slices Swiss cheese, cut into fourths
4 (1-ounce) slices American cheese, cut into fourths
8 pimiento-stuffed olives
8 cherry tomatoes
  1. Spread mustard on one side of 16 bread slices. Spread horseradish on one side of the remaining 16 slices.
  2. On 16 slices of bread spread with the mustard, place a slice Swiss cheese, a ham slice and a slice of Amercan cheese. Top with the remaining 16 slices of bread spread with horseradish.
  3. Divide olives and tomatoes among cocktail picks and skewer sandwiches.
