These easy-to-make moist, cinnamon and
spice applesauce bars make great after school snacks.
Applesauce Bars
- 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter or margarine
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 cup raisins
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Lightly grease a 11 x 7 x 2-inch pan.
- Combine in a medium bowl the flour, baking
soda, spices and salt. Set aside.
- Cream together the butter and sugar. Add
egg and beat until light and fluffy.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and
applesauce, stirring just enough to blend well. Stir in the raisins.
Spoon into the prepared pan and bake for about 30 minutes or
until lightly browned. Cool on wire rack for 10 minutes before
cutting into squares.
Makes about 20 bars.
