The use of vegetable shortening
makes a fluffier vanilla frosting.

- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1/4 cup vegetable shortening
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- divided use
- 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
- Beat butter, shortening
and vanilla. Add 1 cup powdered sugar; beat until creamy. Add
remaining 3 cups powdered sugar alternately with 3 to 4 tablespoons
milk, beating to spreading consistency.
Frosts and fills an 8 or
9-inch layer cake or 1 (13 x 9-inch) cake.
