Apple Pudding

Cream together:
1 cup vegetable shortening
2 cups granulated sugar
 
Add:
2 large eggs
8 medium apples, peeled, and grated
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup chopped nuts
  1. Blend all ingredients well and pour into a 9 x 9-inch square baking pan. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
  2. Serve with sauce.

Makes 8 servings.

Sauce
 
1/2 cup butter
2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
2 cups water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Nutmeg for sprinkling
  1. Melt butter and blend flour, sugar and add boiling water.
  2. Cook until thick, add vanilla and sprinkle with nutmeg.
