Love banana splits? Then you'll love this specialty ice cream pie!

Banana Split Pie

1 large banana, sliced
10 maraschino cherries, halved and drained
1 (9-inch) pie shell, baked
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 quart vanilla ice cream, softened
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1 1/4 cup butter
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
3/4 cup half-and-half
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup heavy whipping cream, whipped
1 tablespoon powdered sugar
Additional maraschino cherries, drained
Additional banana slices
  1. Place banana slices and cherry halves alternately in bottom of baked pastry shell. Sprinkle with walnuts. Spread ice cream over nut layer. Freeze several hours.
  2. In heavy saucepan, melt chocolate pieces and butter. Add powdered sugar and half-and-half. Cook until thick. Add vanilla. Cool. Pour over ice cream layer. Freeze 4 hours.
  3. Whip cream. Gradually add sugar. Continue whipping until stiff. Garnish pie with whipped cream, cherries and banana slices. Serve immediately. Store unused portion in freezer.

Makes 10 servings.
