A nice change from the cinnamon and sugar seasoning traditionally used when baking apples. Serve as either an accompaniment with ham, pork or chicken; or as a comforting dessert when paired with a scoop of premium vanilla ice cream.

Honey Baked Apples

2 cups water
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup clover honey
6 large Rome Beauty or other baking apples
1 cup golden raisins
  1. In a saucepan, bring water, brown sugar and honey to a boil. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Core apples and peel the top third of each. Place in an ungreased 9-inch square baking pan.
  3. Fill apples with raisins; sprinkle any remaining raisins around apples. Pour syrup over apples.
  4. Bake, uncovered, for 1 hour or until tender, basting occasionally.

Makes 6 servings.
