A relaxing facial is good for
the skin -- and for the soul.
Types of Facials
A luxurious facial is a great way to restore the glow to weary,
parched skin. And these days most spas offer a wide selection
of facials -- from anti-aging to aromatherapy.
We asked Audra Senkus, co-owner
of Haven and Eve, two popular day spas in New York City, to explain
the types of facials most spas are offering.
Deep-cleansing: "A deep pore-cleansing facial is
what most people think of as a 'traditional' facial," explains
Senkus. You can expect this treatment to involve exfoliation,
extraction, massage, a mask, and moisturizing.
Extra-hydrating: If your skin is extremely dry, you might
want to opt for an extra-hydrating facial. This moisture-rich
treatment is designed to drench parched skin.
Anti-aging: A little more advanced than the average
facial, the typical anti-aging facial uses ingredients such as
alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids and vitamin C to smooth out fine
lines and wrinkles, plump up skin and encourage collagen production.
Special massage techniques stimulate blood flow to the surface
of skin.
