Keep your makeup from doing a disappearing act.

Raccoon eyes, shadow creases across the lid, liner that migrates down your cheeks: Eye makeup is notorious for slipping and sliding away from where you apply it. Warm, humid weather can add to the problem, as can naturally oily skin.

But you don't have to be stuck with constantly disappearing makeup. The right products and application techniques can ensure your eye makeup stays put throughout the day.

Try these tricks:

  • Use an eye gel instead of a cream. Heavy eye creams are full of rich emollients, which cause makeup to smear easily. Eye gels absorb quicker and contain lighter, makeup-friendly moisturizers.
  • Prep with powder. Dust translucent loose powder onto lids and lashes. The powder will give your color cosmetics something to stick toAvoid creams and pencils. Cream-based shadows and waxy eye pencils smudge. Instead, opt for powder shadows and liners which have more staying power.
  • Look for hypoallergenic products. When cosmetics irritate your eyes, they cause tearing -- another way your makeup can run. Look for allergy-tested, safe-for-sensitive-eyes makeup.
