2. Paint the center of the
squares with a base coat. Top it with a metallic glaze or
other painted finish, following the manufacturer's directions
(see Photo 1).
3. When the finish dries,
tape around the borders. Paint the borders in a coordinating
color.
Cover a bad surface or a rough-textured
ceiling with tongue-and-groove panels (also called beadboard).
Available at most lumberyards
in a variety of grades and sizes, it comes in sheets for quick
and easy installation.
