Let the kids get in on the fun of decorating this simple, festive and edible holiday decoration!

Fun & Easy Holiday House

1/4 cup butter
6 cups or 1 (10.1/2-ounce) package miniature marshmallows
Food coloring, your choice of color (optional)
8 cups crispy rice cereal
2 (16-ounce) containers ready-to-spread white chocolate or vanilla frosting

Suggested decorations: assorted colorful holiday candies and decorating gels
  1. Line an 8-inch loaf pan and an 8-inch square pan with aluminum foil extending about 2-inches beyond sides; lightly grease foil with butter or vegetable spray.
  2. Melt 1/4 cup butter in large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat, add food coloring if desired.
  3. Add cereal and stir until well coated.
  4. Press about three fourths of the cereal mixture firmly into the prepared loaf pan, using buttered hands to press cereal mixture against sides and bottom of bowl to create a thick shell.
  5. Press remaining cereal mixture firmly into bottom of the prepared square pan. Let stand for several hours or overnight until firm.
  6. Lift out cereal shapes from the molds, using foil handles. Carefully peel off foil. With sharp knife, carefully cut "door" and "windows" from loaf-shaped house.
  7. Spread 1 container of frosting onto large foil or plastic-covered board to resemble snow. Place house on "snow".
  8. Using additional frosting, attach the cereal square as the roof of house.
  9. Decorate as desired.

Makes 1 house.
