Ground beef and Italian sausage are combined to make these tasty Italian cheeseburgers topped with provolone cheese.

Italian Cheeseburger

1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1/2 cup tomato sauce
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 (1-ounce) slices provolone cheese
8 Italian bread slices, toasted
  1. Combine the beef, sausage, bread crumbs, tomato sauce, onion, Parmesan cheese and pepper; mix well. Shape into four 5-inch oval patties. Cook as directed (below), topping with provolone cheese.
  2. To broil indoors, preheat the broiler. Place the patties on the greased rack of a broiler pan. Broil both sides to desired doneness. Top each with a slice of cheese; continue broiling until the cheese is melted.
  3. To grill outdoors, place the patties on a greased grill over medium coals (coals will be glowing). Grill, uncovered, 5 minutes on each side, or to desired doneness. Top each with a slice of cheese; continue grilling until the cheese is melted.
  4. Place each patty on a bread slice; top with additional tomato sauce and a bread slice.

Makes 4 servings.
