Sawmill Gravy

6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
6 tablespoons fat from frying sausage, ham, chicken or steak
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (10-ounce) can RoTel brand tomatoes (tomatoes and chilies)
1 1/2 cups milk
  1. Place fat, flour, salt, and pepper into a 10 to 12-inch skillet. Cook until dark brown stirring continuously. Add onions and continue stirring until onions are tender.
