60 Minute Dinner Rolls

Recipe Ingredients:

2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/2 cup warm water
1 cup milk
4 tablespoons vegetable shortening
3 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
4 1/2 cups bread or all-purpose flour

Cooking Directions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water with 1 teaspoon sugar, then set aside.
  2. Heat milk, shortening, 3 tablespoon sugar and salt. Cool to luke warm and combine with dissolved yeast. Add egg and then flour. Mix well. Turn on to a floured board, cover and let stand for 10 minutes. Knead until smooth, then form into balls and place in well-greased pans. Let rise for 60 minutes.
  3. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (205°C) until done, about 20 minutes.

Makes 1 1/2 dozen rolls.
