No matter what you want to call this flavorful dipping sauce -- be it fondue or simply hot pizza dip -- it's great party fare that everyone will love dipping into!
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1/2 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
2 (10.5-ounce) cans pizza sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons fennel seed, crushed
1 1/2 teaspoons leaf oregano
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 1/2 cups shredded Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese
1 cup shredded Wisconsin Mozzarella Cheese
Italian or French bread cut in pieces for accompaniment
- Heat butter in a 2-quart heavy saucepan over high heat. Brown onion and ground beef or sausage, drain excess grease. Transfer cooked meat/onion mixture to a 2-quart fondue pot,
- Add pizza sauce and spices to fondue pot; stir well until the mixture bubbles.
- Add cheeses by handfuls, stirring well after each addition until smooth.
- Serve with Italian or French bread cut in pieces.
Makes 6 to 8 servings.
