The use of vegetable shortening makes a fluffier vanilla frosting.
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 cups powdered sugar - divided use
3 to 4 tablespoons milk
- Beat butter, shortening and vanilla. Add 1 cup powdered sugar; beat until creamy. Add remaining 3 cups powdered sugar alternately with 3 to 4 tablespoons milk, beating to spreading consistency.
Frosts and fills an 8 or 9-inch layer cake, or 1 (13x9x2-inch) cake, or 24 cupcakes.
