Can I freeze bread dough?
Q: After taking dough out of a breadmaker for breadsticks,
can half of the dough be frozen for another time?
A: Yes, you can freeze the dough of most yeast breads.
The exception would be if the dough contained such foods as cottage
cheese, raw fruit or vegetables because they do not freeze well
and when thawed will break down and become watery thus ruining
the bread. The shaped dough should be frozen without allowing
it to rise. Freeze the bread dough in sturdy, airtight plastic
bags made specifically for freezing. Frozen dough should be used
within 3 months for best results.
When ready to use, place frozen
dough in (greased or ungreased as the specific recipe requires)
baking pan and thaw slowly in the refrigerator overnight. The
next day place pan in a warm area so the dough can rise as needed
before baking.
