How do I bake potatoes in
a convection/toaster oven?
Q: I need instructions for baking potatoes in a convection/toaster
oven. I'm 88 and have always cooked the old-fashioned way, but
I'm ready for the 21st century so any help you can give me will
be appreciated.
A: To prepare baked potatoes for your convection/toaster
oven, first wash and dry potatoes then pierce each with the tines
of a fork several times to prevent them from bursting, then wrap
in foil. (For a crispier skin, rub potatoes with vegetable oil
and omit wrapping with foil.) Bake potatoes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit
for approximately 45 to 50 minutes or until potatoes test done
when given a squeeze (using a potholder).
The main difference between a
conventional oven and a convection oven is the latter has a fan
that forces the hot air to continually circulate around the oven
which promotes even baking and reduces the baking time somewhat.
It may also be necessary to set the temperature to a lower setting
in a convection oven than what it would normally be set in a
conventional oven. Overall, the best advice I can truly give
you on how to best use your new oven is to read the instruction
manual provided by the manufacturer.
