Can liquid skim milk be substituted
for dry milk powder?
Q: Can we use skim milk in place of skim milk powder?
If we can what quantity of skim milk should be used for 3 teaspoons
milk powder?
A: Yes, you can use skim milk or milk in place of
milk powder (also called dry milk or powdered milk). Milk powder
usually reconstitutes at a ratio of 1 to 4. For example 1 cup
of milk powder to four cups of water, or 1/4 cup of milk powder
to 1 cup water.
Now let's do a little "cooking
math"! 3 teaspoons equals 1 tablespoon. So 1 tablespoon
of milk powder will require 4 tablespoons water to be reconstituted
into liquid milk. 4 tablespoons equals 1/4 cup.
So what you need to do is omit
the milk powder and 1/4 cup of the liquid (I'm assuming it's
water) in your recipe and replace them with 1/4 cup liquid skim
milk.
