Sure it's a cinch to buy a jar of salsa, but this recipe is almost as easy. It's packed with punch and worth the minimal effort.

Lean Salsa

1 1/2 cups ORTEGA® Diced Green Chiles
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic, diced
1 1/2 cups plum tomatoes, diced
1 cup red onion, diced
4 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
3 tablespoons (1 lime) lime juice**
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  1. Combine all the above ingredients, except the cilantro and refrigerate covered for at least one hour.
  2. Add freshly chopped cilantro 15 minutes prior to serving .
  3. Serve as a side dish/sauce for grilled chicken or with baked tortilla chips

Makes 4 cups.

*Recommended chile combination: 2 tablespoons diced jalapeno pepper, 2/3 cup diced pablano chile (1 chile), 3 tablespoon sweet Anaheim chile (1 chile), 2/3 cup diced sweet red pepper (1 pepper)

**Fresh squeezed, preferably
