A hearty whole wheat yeast bread with the tangy flavor of sourdough. This recipe was written for use with bread machines.

Sourdough Whole Wheat Bread

For 1 1/2 Pound Loaf:
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup sourdough starter (room temperature)
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
3 cups whole wheat bread flour
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
 
For 2 Pound Loaf:
1 cup plus 3 tablespoons water
2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 1/4 cup sourdough starter (room temperature)
2 teaspoons salt
4 teaspoons granulated sugar
4 cups whole wheat bread flour
2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  1. Place ingredients in the bread machine pan in the order suggested by the manufacturer.
  2. Select Whole Wheat bread cycle and start machine.
