A fruitcake by any other name is...still a fruitcake! If you like fruitcake, this is the coffeecake for you.

Burn's Fruit Coffeecake

1/2 pound butter, softened
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 cup red wine
3 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sweetened flaked coconut
8 ounces candied red cherries
8 ounces chopped pecans
8 ounces candied green pineapple chunks
8 ounces dried mixed fruit
8 ounces golden raisins
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 10 x 4-inches tune pan or 2 loaf pans, 9 x 5 x 3-inches.
  2. In a bowl, combine softened butter, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, lemon juice, red wine, and 3 eggs.
  3. Stir in flour.
  4. Add coconut, candied red cherries, chopped pecans, green pineapple chunks, dried mixed fruit, and golden raisins.
  5. Pour into prepared pans.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour.

Makes 16 servings.
