This is a perfect recipe for that classic chocolate cake.

Favorite Chocolate Cake

2 (2-ounce) bars NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Unsweetened Chocolate Baking Bars, broken into pieces
1/2 cup butter or margarine
2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1/2 cup water
2 large eggs
1 tablespoon lemon juice, or white distilled vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
  1. Microwave baking bars in small, microwave-safe bowl on HIGH (100%) power for 1 minute; stir. Microwave at additional 10 to 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth; cool to room temperature.
  2. Beat sugar and butter in large mixer bowl. Add flour, milk, water, eggs, lemon juice, vanilla extract, baking powder, baking soda and salt; beat on low speed until blended. Beat on high speed for 2 minutes. Beat in melted chocolate.
  3. Pour into two well-greased and floured 9-inch round baking pans or one 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
  4. Bake in preheated 350°F oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans for 20 minutes; invert onto wire racks to cool completely before frosting.

Makes 18 servings.
