There are a number of explanations as to why and how this dish got its name, but according to Kraft Kitchens, when the recipe for Pistachio Pineapple Delight Salad was sent out, a Chicago food editor renamed it Watergate Salad to promote interest in the recipe when she printed it in her column.
1 (3.5-ounce) package JELL-O Pistachio Flavor Instant Pudding
1 (20-ounce) can crushed pineapple in juice, undrained
1/2 cup chopped PLANTERS Pecans
1 cup JET-PUFFED Miniature Marshmallows
1 1/2 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
- Combine first 4 ingredients in large bowl.
- Stir in Cool Whip.
- Refrigerate 1 hour.
