Chocolate Sugar Plum Cookies

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons Calumet Baking Powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 squares Baker's Unsweetened Baking Chocolate, melted
1/4 cup colored sugar
6 tablespoons white decorating icing
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Mix flour, baking powder and salt in large bowl; set aside.
  3. Beat butter in separate large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until creamy. Gradually add granulated sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; mix well. Gradually add flour mixture, beating until well blended after each addition. Add chocolate; mix well.
  4. Roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness on lightly floured surface. Cut with assorted 3-inch cookie cutters; sprinkle with colored sugar. Place, 2-inches apart, on ungreased baking sheets.
  5. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Cool on wire racks.
  6. Decorate with icing. Store in loosely covered container at room temperature.

Makes about 3 dozen cookies or 36 servings.

Family Fun:
Roll out dough and bake cookies as directed. (Do not sprinkle cutouts with colored sugar before baking.) Let the kids spread the cooled cookies with frosting, then decorate as desired, using colored sugar, multi-colored and chocolate sprinkles, chopped Planters Nuts and/or seasonal candies.
