Deep Dish Apple Raisin Pie

2 1/2 pounds (6 to 7) Golden Delicious apples, peeled and thinly sliced
1/2 cup raisins
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons orange juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
Pinch ground cloves
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Pastry for one-crust (9-inch) pie
  1. Heat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. In large bowl combine apples, raisins, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cloves. Mound mixture in 2-inch deep 9-inch baking dish. Dot with butter.
  3. Cover apple filling with pastry; seal and flute edges. Cut several vents in top crust to vent steam.
  4. Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until crust is golden and apples are tender. Cool at least 30 minutes before serving.
