The National Biscuit Company created Ritz
Crackers in 1933 and shortly afterward introduced a recipe that
has remain an adored oddity for nearly 70 years: Mock Apple Pie.
Its popularity soared during World War II when fresh apples were
a luxury few could afford.
Roasted Peanut-Graham Crust
- 3/4 cups ground dry-roasted peanuts
- 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
3 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
1/3 cup butter, melted
- Combine ground peanuts, graham cracker
crumbs, brown sugar and melted butter; mix well.
- Press crust mixture into a 9-inch pie
pan and bake at 375*F
(190*C) for 7 to 10 minutes. Cool.
Makes 1 9-inch pie crust.
