A spicy pan sauce results in this slowly simmered skillet dinner. Serve steaks and pan sauce with mashed potatoes and buttered peas.
Spicy Pork Steaks with Apple-Mustard Sauce
- 4 pork blade steaks, 3/4-1 inch thick
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon coriander
2 teaspoon vegetable oil
1/2 medium onion, thinly sliced
1/2 cup apple juice or cider
1/3 cup diced dried apples
1 tablespoon apple jelly
2 tablespoons Dijon-style mustard
- Stir together spices and rub on steaks.
- Heat oil in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat; add onion and cook and stir until onion is soft but not brown, about 3 minutes.
- Push onion to one side of pan; add steaks and brown, about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes on each side.
- Add apple juice, dried apples, jelly and mustard, stir to blend well. Bring to a boil, cover, lower heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
