Main Dish Fruit Salad

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
2 bananas, sliced
1 1/2 cups cantaloupes*
1 peach, diced
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 cup seedless grapes
1 cup strawberries
1 1/2 cups watermelons
3 cups cottage cheese
  1. In a bowl combine mayonnaise, lemon juice, and sugar; stir well and set aside.
  2. In a bowl combine sliced bananas, balled cantaloupe, diced peach, pineapple chunks, seedless grapes, halved strawberries, and balled watermelon. Spoon into serving dishes and divide cottage cheese on top. Serve with the mayonnaise dressing.

Makes 6 servings.

*Melons, squash, and cucumbers -- all of which ripen while lying on the ground – can be exposed to salmonella and e. coli bacteria. As a precaution, they should be washed with soap and hot water, then rinsed before proceeding with any recipe. This applies even if you are only using the flesh of the melon (or squash or cucumber); the mere act of cutting through the rind is enough to bring harmful bacteria in contact with the flesh.
