For a heartier sandwich, add sliced turkey or chicken to traditional grilled cheese sandwiches.

Grilled Turkey and Swiss Sandwiches

2 tablespoons Dijon-style mustard
2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
6 slices light or dark rye bread
6 ounces very thinly sliced smoked turkey or chicken breast
4 ounces sliced Swiss cheese
3 tablespoons margarine or butter

  1. In a small bowl, combine mustard and horseradish; spread on half of the rye bread slices. Arrange turkey slices over mustard-covered bread; top with cheese and remaining bread. Halve each sandwich.
  2. In a 12-inch skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of the margarine or butter; add sandwiches. Cook over medium heat 3 to 4 minutes until golden brown and cheese is melted, turning once and adding remaining margarine as needed.

Makes 3 servings.
