These warm open faced sandwiches are sure to be a hit with their tangy meat filling and rich and gooey melted cheese topping. Serve with chili-flavored corn chips and fresh vegetables for a meal that will definitely hit the spot.

Open Face Santa Fe Sandwiches

8 ounces sausage, cooked and drained
8 ounces ground beef, cooked and drained
1 (4-ounce) can diced green chiles
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup tomato ketchup
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
6 buns, split and toasted
12 thick slices Monterey Jack cheese
  1. Preheat broiler.
  2. Combine sausage, beef, chiles, water, ketchup, chili powder, sugar and cumin in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cook for 10 minutes. Cool slightly.
  3. Spoon warm meat mixture onto 12 halves of buns. Top with cheese. Broil for 3 to 5 minutes or until cheese is melted and lightly browned.
