Simple Onion Soup with Croutons
This caramelized onion soup is simply topped with toasted croutons and Parmesan cheese—no baking or broiling required.
2 tablespoons butter
2 onions, thinly sliced
4 cups water
4 teaspoons beef base or bouillon granules
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 cup toasted croutons
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- In a medium saucepan melt butter and sauté onions over low heat until caramelized and a nice golden color. Add water, beef base and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 20 minutes.
- Ladle into individual serving bowls and sprinkle croutons and cheese evenly on top of each to serve.
Makes 4 servings.
