Simple Onion Soup with Croutons

2 tablespoons butter
2 onions, thinly sliced
4 cups water
4 teaspoons beef base or bouillon granules
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 cup croutons
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  1. In a medium saucepan melt butter and sauté onions over low heat until caramelized and a nice golden color. Add water, beef base and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Ladle into individual serving bowls and sprinkle croutons and cheese evenly on top of each to serve.

Makes 4 servings.
