Simple Onion Soup with Croutons

No recipe image available.This caramelized onion soup is simply topped with toasted croutons and Parmesan cheese—no baking or broiling required.

Recipe Ingredients:

2 tablespoons butter
2 onions, thinly sliced
4 cups water
4 teaspoons beef base or bouillon granules
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 cup toasted croutons
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Cooking Directions:

  1. In a medium saucepan melt butter and sauté onions over low heat until caramelized and a nice golden color. Add water, beef base and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  2. Ladle into individual serving bowls and sprinkle croutons and cheese evenly on top of each to serve.

Makes 4 servings.
